About the Power of We Consortium’s AmeriCorps Program:
The Power of We Consortium’s AmeriCorps VISTA Program focuses on building the capacity of Ingham County organizations in the areas of education and economic opportunity. The program emphasizes the importance of professional development and personal growth while creating an exceptional AmeriCorps VISTA experience for members during the service term. Each member of the program is passionate about some area of community development and is aware of the importance of the work that they are doing for the Ingham County community. AmeriCorps members spend a summer or a year at local nonprofit organizations targeting underserved communities.

About My Role As A Member:
Four core principles provide the framework of all AmeriCorps VISTA projects:
- Ending Poverty: The project’s goal addresses helping individuals and communities move out of poverty, rather than making poverty more tolerable through short-term services.
- Empowering Communities: The project engages residents of low-income communities in planning, development, and implementation of the project.
- Building Capacity: Members strengthen, expand, and increase the reach of anti-poverty organizations and programs by working on projects with staff and volunteers, rather than directly with people in need.
- Creating Sustainable Solutions: Members build capacity for organizations to address poverty long after the VISTA members are gone. VISTA members develop systems, relationships, and knowledge which they transfer to the organization and the community to sustain over the long-term.
