About the Company

Vanguard Community Development Corporation (Vanguard CDC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering and uplifting the local community, particularly focusing on youth entrepreneurship and development. One of its standout initiatives is The Urban Artist Collective (UAC), founded by Lottie V. Spady. UAC fosters creativity and innovation in young artists, providing a platform for artistic expression while also promoting entrepreneurial skills. Through programs and projects, UAC encourages young people to harness their talents, build self-confidence, and engage in professional development.

About My Role:

As an Urban Artist Intern at Vanguard CDC, I had the opportunity to contribute to the organization’s mission of supporting youth entrepreneurship and artistic expression. My role involved designing and maintaining websites, creating visual media products, and engaging in graphic design for a range of marketing and promotional materials. I was also involved in web development projects, including hand-coding HTML websites and supporting the I.D. Me Project for exhibition. This position allowed me to apply my skills in both creative and technical domains while working closely with the local community to expand UAC’s reach and impact.

Duties:

  • Designed, coded, and maintained websites for Vanguard CDC, Urban Artist Collective, and other clients
  • Created logos, fliers, tri-fold brochures, postcards, and press kits to help build brand identity for various clients
  • Developed and maintained the UPH Scholars website, ensuring it was user-friendly and engaging
  • Produced and designed media products for marketing and promotional purposes
  • Hand-coded HTML websites from scratch, focusing on clean, accessible design and functionality
  • Collaborated on the I.D. Me Project, contributing creative content for the exhibition
  • Conducted research to identify potential new business clients for UAC from the North End community
