Have you heard of the new Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. trend going around social media? It’s a streamlined version of the loved “favorite things” trend that’s viral on popular platforms like TikTok and Lemon8.

I really love the Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. trend! As I’ve been following the content created by others for this trend, I’m impressed by its simplicity, popularity, and effectiveness. Feeling inspired, I’m excited to join in on the fun myself by sharing my weekly highlights on my social media and blog!

In this post, I’ll explain the trend, why I’m joining, and what you can expect to see from me. Keep reading to learn more!

What is a Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T.?

In case you haven’t already heard about it, the Weekly (or Daily) R.E.P.O.R.T. trend took off on TikTok. User Gooseweek posts them often and is frequently credited as the creator of this trend by others who’ve hopped on it and shared their own versions.

How It Works

For this trend, participating users post photo slideshows to share what they’ve been up to and their experiences from the previous week in six predefined categories. In these R.E.P.O.R.T. posts, creators list their favorite items or activities in each category, often including aesthetically pleasing photos and viral tunes to accompany them. Each image highlights the standouts in each category from their week.

What are the categories?

Just in case you’re wondering, “R.E.P.O.R.T.” is written the way it is for a reason; it’s an acronym. Each letter in the word, report, has a meaning. In this case, the letters stand for Reading, Eating, Playing, Obsessing, Recommending, and Treating.

Since these posts are typically shared as a photo slideshow, the first image is crucial as it sets the tone for the photos that follow. However, the meat of the posts is contained in the subsequent six images, each corresponding to one of the categories associated with the R.E.P.O.R.T. letters. Learn more about each category below.

  • R — Reading. You share what you’re currently reading and a brief description.
  • E — Eating. You share something you ate that week that you loved and recommend, or you can share an aesthetic photo.
  • P — Playing. This category could be taken literally or loosely; You could share a photo of you physically playing, what music you’re playing, and more.
  • O — Obsessing. This is the most open-ended category, in my opinion. You can share what you’ve been loving or what’s been challenging you throughout the week. I love seeing how creative other people get when sharing what they’re loving or dreading during their week.
  • R — Recommending. This is another open-ended category; You share something in any area you’d recommend to your audience.
  • T — Treating. You share how or what you are treating yourself with. This category encourages creators to intentionally treat themselves after their week, a common self-care practice.

Why It Works

Social media has become an integral part of our daily lives, used by individuals, brands, and businesses to build a community, entertain, educate, and simply have fun. Young, old, and in between, everyone is on social media. Nowadays, it’s almost unbelievable for someone not to have an account or not to be active on some social media sites, regardless of their age group. As a result, it’s common for people to become influencers who work with brands, intentionally or unintentionally.

This Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. trend is an absolute game-changer for creators, as it maximizes the very nature of social media that we all love and hate, sharing what you are doing or interested in, and allows you to put it on display for your followers in a refreshing way.

Participating in this trend gives creators a taste of influencer-like status (even for a day) that can help foster a strong sense of community and encourage meaningful interactions with their audience. The best part? This trend is incredibly effective at maximizing exposure and engagement thanks to its compatibility with social media algorithms. But the benefits don’t stop there!

By focusing on positivity, mindfulness, self-care, and authenticity, creators can support their personal development goals while helping promote a more uplifting and inspiring content culture. This trend is easily adaptable to different platforms, from social media to a blog or website, making it an excellent way for creators to connect with new audiences and build trust.

Why I’m Joining the Trend

A few years ago, before this trend was so popular, I learned about and joined the Now Page Movement, which was unintentionally created by Derek Sivers. Before my recent website changes, I’d made my own version of a /Now page on my personal and portfolio websites to share what I was up to and my latest updates.

To tailor the page content to the purpose of each site, I created a different format for each that matched the respective brand’s identity, purpose, and tone of voice. For my portfolio website, I shared my personal updates, what I’m working on in my career, and what’s next up on my list. On my blog website, since it was initially named Eat. Nerd. Create., I shared my personal updates and what I was up to across six categories, Personal, Eating + Drinking, Nerding Out On, Creating (Projects), Learning, and Reading, which is already very similar to this trend.

Recently, I’ve been making changes to my portfolio, personal, and blog websites to bring together the separate identities I’ve created for myself over the years. With these changes, my goal is to increase my online presence, own my content, foster consistency, unify my messaging, and present myself as one whole person across platforms in real life and online.

When I came across the Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. trend on Lemon8, my curiosity had me going backward through the timeline to see how many other people were doing the same thing. I found tons of people online, across platforms, who were already deep into this trend. Along with many others today, this trend is taking us back to making more genuine, unedited content that is relatable to people. I love this move towards authenticity, especially since I lean more towards following creators I’d want to be friends with in real life.

Between what I was already doing with my Now page, my love for journaling, and the hype behind this new trend, I was sold and ready to join in!

What You Can Expect

Lately, I’ve been working on growing my blog, personal brand, and freelance business. To do that, I plan to post more on my social media and blogs, attend more networking events, learn more every day, and market my business more. One of my big goals is to use my time better. So, I will track my time, see how I spend it, and try to be more mindful throughout the day. That way, I’ll be more productive and intentional with my time in the future while still having some fun through this trend.

To be honest, I love having a good debrief at the end of a long week. I’m joining this trend to keep me motivated to post regularly on my social media and blog. Plus, it will help me appreciate life’s happy moments, practice consistency, and identify patterns in my progress towards my goals. This way, I can create more content that my followers (like you) can relate to and achieve my personal development goals of being more mindful and intentional.

Starting this weekend, I will share my latest happenings and life’s little highlights every Sunday on my social media and blog through my Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. post. Since I’m hopping on this trend kind of late and Sunday will be the last Sunday in April, I will do my report for the month rather than the week. I hope to keep my audience engaged and entertained with my experiences, and I look forward to making new connections and building relationships with my current followers. If you’d like to follow along, let’s connect! I usually share lifestyle, foodie, nerdy, creative, and sometimes commentary content. Stay tuned! 😁

Final Thoughts…

Following the trend and interacting with other people’s content is entertaining and inspiring, but I’m even more excited to join! I am also thinking about using the Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T as part of my self-care routine when journaling or practicing mindful reflection.
